Caroline is a vampire. She aligns more toward good, so there's no danger in her losing control (when she has full control over herself, eg: isn't under the effect of an event) or of being overly hostile/violent unless provoked.

The following subjects may come up when threading with her. If you're uncomfortable with my mentioning them, please just let me know here! Comments will be screened. Please feel free to contact me at [plurk.com profile] illusen.

-Vampirism
-Blood-drinking
-Grief/loss of friends or family members
-Magic
-Werewolves
-Death

She also some handy vampire skills. I will ALWAYS ask before any of them are employed.

-Heightened strength, stamina, speed

-Mind complusion: she can control a human to do whatever she wants them to do (for bad or good, but she usually uses this to help someone, to make them forget seeing something that may make life harder to continue knowing)

-Dream manipulation: she can tap into a sleeping person's mind to control their subconscious. This has generally been used to help ease someone's suffering, to bring up a past positive memory)

-Her blood has healing properties and can help a human to recover from potentially fatal injuries. PLEASE NOTE: a human who dies with vampire blood in their system will start to transition into a vampire. Upon waking up, they'll need to consume blood to complete the transition. SO, she can create more vampires...though, SHE'S not going to be on board with that idea.

Name: Caroline Forbes
Canon: The Vampire Diaries
Age: 25, eternally appears to be 17
Appearance: Reference Image
Caroline is 5'8" with a slim build, shoulder-length wavy blonde hair, and green-blue eyes. She has a feminine style of dress and always wears her lapis lazuli daylight ring.

Canon Point: 8.13, "The Lies Will Catch Up With You" after Stefan decides he should leave Mystic Falls, additionally she'll be coming in with Hadriel CRAU.
Background: Wiki

CRAU: Caroline spent a little over two months in a place called Hadriel, an underground jamjar setting where character's emotions were often manipulated. A set of gods communicated and interacted with the people who were brought there. These gods were not as equipped with answers as one might expect 'gods' to be, though.

Hadriel was referred to as a cave: it was rather dank and dark, and the spot of many horror events. Caroline learned all about enduring the effects of a jamjar's events, and that they included effects she was unable to to control. Her personality did not shift so much as alter her to be a bit more rigid and hyper-aware of current anxieties mingling with the darkness of her surroundings. She arrived at the same time as one of her best friends, Elena Gilbert, but the two of them were from vastly different points in time. Elena was from much earlier than Caroline.

She's had the baggage of knowing dark details and sharing/oversharing/trying to pick what was best to share with Elena. She also turned her very human friend into a vampire during an event where characters were prone to getting angrier and violent far more often, inhibitions lowered. She lives with the grief of inflicting that on Elena, as well as living on her own due to Elena recently moving out of their shared apartment after needing some well-deserved emotional and physical space.

Otherwise, she's very much like herself at her canon-point. I've brought her with this CR because I enjoyed her development with Elena, the various characters she also met, (ones who she was just herself around, very sociable overall) and her knowledge of having been sucked to a random new universe where "events" are triggered.

Personality:

★ MISS MYSTIC FALLS ★

. Our first look at Caroline is an incredibly popular, straight-A high school student. On the surface, she's friendly, extremely positive, and often bubbly with a real zest for life. She loves and lives for activities, parties, events. They make up a large portion of her high school years (from dances to competitions to carnivals and cookouts), and her future-self is always willing to go back to Mystic Falls when called upon to appear at a special event. Her dreams in life are big too, the end goal always her target. People talk about running the race of life, but Caroline is at a constant sprint. A passionate overachiever, she's very thorough, having perfected the art of planning and will go above and beyond to complete any goal she's set her mind on. When she doesn't get her way? She snaps out at people to get stuff done, and fast. She's demanding.

. Vanity and jealously also ruled Caroline for a long time in her teenage years. Trying to date Stefan Salvatore so that Elena couldn't have him was an actual goal she had. Winning the beauty pageant, Miss Mystic Falls, instead of Elena? Also a goal (which, she achieved.)

Often, she was snappy, unkind, judgmental, critically overbearing, and impatient. Her personality was an alienating one (good for her that she had top-notch friends who didn't drop her.) Woven into any of her relationships were moments of selfishness, shallowness, low-blow jabs, and envy. A girl who would smile to your face while seeking to destroy your dreams to capture up a coveted prize for herself. She was, in fact, crazily competitive with Elena. Her own popularity was never enough: Elena always had something better.

. Caroline is an honest girl, sometimes overly so. If she directly lies, it's only out of necessity. When her mother found out about her being a vampire, Liz Forbes told her daughter she would keep her secret. While Caroline knew that while her mother would keep her secret, she wouldn't do so for the other vampires. She compelled Liz to forget that she was a vampire, for the security of Stefan and Damon Salvatore.

. Being friends with Caroline comes with her making blunt statements. "Are you switching Salvatores?" she's asked Elena when there was drama afoot with her friend's relationship(s). The caveat here is that she only wants to help. Sometimes people need to hear the brutal truth.

. Despite the confident game face she puts on, plus her track record of successes, insecurity lurks just at the surface. Self-doubt is what shaped Caroline into who she is today. When she was a child, she was dramatic. Her mother is quoted as calling a young Caroline 'high maintenance.' There are countless examples of how dramatic she can be. When she didn't want to do anything for her first birthday after being turned, she told her friends that she was stuck in a filler year forever, that she'd never be the desired eighteen, never a true adult. Caroline sees all situations several degrees more intensely than most, often exaggerating.

★ THE VAMPIRE YEARS | ETERNAL FILLER YEAR ★

. After she became a vampire, all of the aspects of her personality became heightened: it happens with all vampires. The nasty streaks, the jealously, possessive, unkind comments with zero tact, the insatiable need to overachieve and be the best at everything. Those attributes would come pouring out of her without regard for anyone else. Even then though, her friends tried to give her the advice of being more 'selfless.' Their imploring started to work after awhile, too, unlike in earlier years of her life.

. To help through the initial streak of deep self-loathing after being turned, Stefan became her vampire mentor. 150+ years old with a very dark history, he was gentle and compassionate, and a close bond bloomed between them (one that grew into a romantic relationship much further into canon.) Through his mentoring, she becomes more confident and collects her impulses quite a bit better.

. Through it all, Caroline believes that being turned into a vampire made her progressively better, and she wouldn't change who she is.

. Growing pains noted aside, she came fairly easily into accepting her identity as a vampire, to control the urge of blood lust, drinking from blood bags with no random causalities. She was an unwitting pawn in her transformation, but ended up completing her own transformation (unknowingly!) after waking up. She also used mind compulsion without knowing that she could. She's resourceful and perceptive! Caroline likes getting what she wants, even today with her motivations being different.

★ VAMPIRE MOM, JOURNALIST, MULTI-TASKER EXTRAORDINAIRE ★

. Caroline is 25 now and brings a new meaning to capable. The edges of her flaws have softened a good deal, a strong and centered woman coming through on a daily basis. Her character traits remain, and over the years, she's matured a great deal. A large part of that is due to being a mom.

. At the end of season 6, she was magically impregnated by siphon witch twins (their mother was murdered, and they were swapped while still in utero via a spell into the most optimal, nearest body.) The pregnancy was difficult, even barring the fact that she was made a surrogate through no choice of her own. The fetuses siphoned magic from her while in the womb, nearly killing her. After a C-section birth, Caroline raises the twins (with their father, Alaric Saltzman) as her own. They are hers, her children, her life.

She's filled the maternal role expertly and is still honest with herself when she sees any mistakes she might be making. She examines situations and herself to be sure she's doing the best job that she can: and doing that's never been more important as when raising the girls. She and Alaric co-parent like champs.

. She's dynamic and blunt with their parenting. When she realizes that she poses a direct danger to the girls because of how darkness follows vampires, she and Alaric agree that he should take the girls elsewhere for safety (they return shortly after, yet it was a sacrifice she would have made time and again, for her kids to be safe.)

. She's a planner, still, for everything. To-lists make up a large part of her life, and she often doles them out to those she's working with.

★ FRIENDSHIPS | WHAT BINDS US ★

. She comes to realize that you always do whatever it takes to help your friends. For Stefan, numerous times. She puts aside reservations and ill feelings to help those who her friends are directly connected to, like super volatile and reckless Damon. She puts her own life in mortal danger while helping Tyler Lockwood through his first transformation as a werewolf; a werewolf bite can kill a vampire. She's there for her friends if they need her for emergencies or something as simple as support through conversation. When Elena turned her humanity off and was being tortured with the aim to get her to turn it back on, Caroline believed in her and brought her a small amount of blood to drink as a kindness.

. She makes sacrifices for her friends. Matt Donovan (also one of her oldest friends) is someone she craved to be with, but who she couldn't tell the full truth about being a vampire to. When she initially realized that she'd only hurt him if they stayed together, she pretended to be mean to him to get him to break up with her. She's also worked to protect him over the years, too, for he's always been human.

. Before having her kids, she'd risk everything in her life for anyone she loved. Now, she won't risk her children's or Alaric's lives. It's what any of her friends would do, for those they love the most.

. It's through the softening of some of her harsher character traits that she's truly able to bond more deeply with Elena and Bonnie Bennett, the three girls often acting as cornerstones to one another.

. Throughout the trials her group of friends go through, she's often filled the role of being the 'mom friend.' Far before she was ever a mom. Checking in on people, making sure they have whatever their heart could desire when they've been through hell and back. She takes it too far sometimes, too, smothering a bit. Her heart is always in the right place in this area, and it's one of the ways her neuroticism really shines through.

★ FAMILY | GRIEF INCARNATE ★

. Even with the turbulence so many families face, Caroline's relationships with her parents are defining, and they mean the world to her. After her initial compulsion of her mother to make her forget she was a vampire, Liz found out again and fully accepted Caroline. There's no one who gave their all to Caroline as much as her mother, and she knows and recognizes that. When her father, Bill Forbes, found out that Caroline was a vampire, he tortured her to get her to change her instincts. She told him that she wouldn't change, that it was who she was, and that she had herself under control (which she did.)

. Both of her parents have died, and that's taken quite the toll. Her friends supported her when Bill allowed himself to die rather than complete an unwanted vampire transition, and it naturally devastated her. When Caroline lost her mother, she couldn't bear it. She turned off her humanity. She enabled Stefan into also turning his humanity off to join in on her fun. She also burned the final letter that her mother left for her, one of her most regretful and difficult moments. This was the most difficult event of her years as a vampire, perhaps of her entire life. Additionally, she tried everything she could to heal her mother of the cancer that plagued her, unwilling to accept its inevitability.

★ BOYS, BOYS, BOYS | A FORGIVING, YET INDEPENDENT WOMAN ★

. Caroline is not a pushover. Not with boys, not in relationships, not ever. She's also headstrong and stubborn about getting what she wants and always speaks up for herself. In matters of the heart, when explored deeply, she possesses a great deal of devotion, perception, softness, forgiveness, sympathy and empathy.

. During her relationship with Tyler, after they bonded over being able to be honest about their supernatural lives with one another, she always believed in him, even when he eventually parted ways with her. The volatile, dangerous, obsessive, 'rips the lives of everyone he touches apart,' Klaus Mikaelson is someone she openly told she knew was capable of more love than he willingly showed.

. While on the outs with Tyler, she sleeps with Klaus, someone who has hurt her and her friends beyond imagining, plus someone who she always pushed away before. It's during this arc that the balance of dark and light within Caroline is shown. As Klaus previously stated in her general vicinity, even the purest of hearts are drawn to darkness. It's a dramatic statement; no one really has a pure heart. But does Caroline come close? She throws all of her judgment to the wind when she sleeps with him (after he agrees to stop bothering her from there on out, if she's honest about how she feels toward him, which she obviously wanted to be able to do), giving into the darkness that she's always tried to keep at bay. Giving into other facets of who she is, what she wants, even if darkness may be tangled up in the mix.

When it surfaces that she slept with Klaus, Caroline isn't ashamed so much as she realizes that her friends Will Have Opinions about it, which is a tumble of knowing they'll all see how it was a bad thing she did. It was a moment of lust that while she freaks about having happened, she does not appreciate Tyler continuing to guilt trip her over; everyone does bad things, why is she so unforgivable? Why is she held to a higher standard? She's sincerely sorry that it hurts Tyler. Yet. She's her own woman: if she wants to sleep with anyone, she can and will. It was her choice, and she lives with the consequences. She processes, she deals, and she doesn't regret gaining that new degree of intimacy with Klaus. In the end, she stands up for herself. Yes, she was pulled in by a force that anyone in their right mind could assign the title of darkness: but what is darkness, other than part of what shapes her? Caroline has embraced darkness as a part of her makeup. She usually pushes it away, yet giving into it did not shatter her world. Wildly enough, she comes to have something akin to friendship, if not simply being allies, with Klaus after this. It's a defining moment for her.

. She and Stefan were engaged for several episodes but when he made it clear that the Ripper (a sadistic, 'humanity turned off' vampire) life was more of a priority than keeping a deal that the two of them had made, she tossed the ring back to him and told him to leave her alone until he could get his grasps back on where to find real happiness. Even so, she has always believed she could bring him back again -- even if didn't include the two of them having a forever future together.

Weaknesses/Temptations: When the people that Caroline loves are in danger, she'll do whatever it takes to rescue them. She has a lot of tools at her employment because of being a vampire, too (mind compulsion, using her blood to heal wounds with the caveat that it could exasperate the issue [as it did with her mother's cancer] or that it could cause a person to turn into a vampire if they die with her blood still in their system, heightened strength, etc.)

It's true that Caroline doesn't put anyone before the safety of her girls, so seeing them or being convinced of them getting hurt would stretch what she's willing to do. In the past, she's killed to save her friends, too: she willfully let a group of twelve witches die to save Bonnie during a spell going wrong.

When she experiences too much loss, she could be inclined to turn her humanity off again. She did so when her mother died.

Falling back into neurotic and controlling behaviors when a situation isn't going her way, or when she's unable to reach her version of perfection, could potentially cause her to overreact. She's a fixer, through and through, obsessing over stepping in when needed and righting a wrong because she can absolutely save the day or resolve an issue better than most. Her obsession with this has led her astray in the past.

A lot of Caroline's temptation and weaknesses definitely stem from what she's capable of doing as a vampire. She's pretty centered and a lot more chill overall, as a 25-year old vampire mom, and she keeps her emotions fairly well in control. She's never been ruthless or unable to control herself, either (other than when she'd turned her humanity off due to grief.) The hyper-awareness of a vampire in terms of senses and emotions is a double-edged sword a lot of the time: she's quite capable but any vampire is prone to snap when pushed too far. And when they snap, it can definitely be ugly.

It's worth noting, too, that vampires experience heightened sensations and emotions, so anything in-game that might mess with THOSE? She'd be set up for being impulsive. Vampires have high sex drives too, so lust is certainly a factor: this has been more explored in her earlier years than in the last season, but it's still notable.
